Anyone know where to buy cans of something that you put on BBQ grill that flavor your meat?

My boyfriend has me beating the streets and noone know what I am talking about. He says it comes in small round tins that you place on the grill and when they heat up, the flavoring comes out and seasons the meat through the smoke. Does anyone know where I might find something like this...that is, if it even exists! THANKS SO MUCH!!!

sounds like maybe hes thinking that the tin is store bought but you make it your self what you do is get some wood chips put them in a tin, with water, let them soak, when your fire is ready, and you ready to start cooking put the tin with water, and wood chips to one side of pit where there's no fire then after you cook you meat or whatever before it fully done move it over to the smoke let it finish by smoking it, there are different types of flavored wood chips, you can find them in the charcoal section in you local stores
