bbq question - gas - when to use griddle and when to use grill?

Just bought a gas bbq. it's a grill with lava rocks on one side and a griddle (flat Cast Iron sheet) on the other. I'm having a bbq on Sat and not sure what i cook on the griddle and what on the grill?

The griddle is good for anything that might be too fragile to put on the grill for fear of it coming apart, like loose burgers or salmon-although grilling salmon with it's skin on does reinforce it and the skin comes away very easily after the fillet is done.
You could use the griddle also for veggies or beans in a pot or to brown your buns when there's no room on the grill or you can throw some shrimp that may be too small for the grill on the griddle with some garlic butter and lemon and you got scampi!
You could also grill some sausage patties or links, even some downhome country ham, and do eggs and pancakes on the griddle too.
