Using a gas grill has many advantages over the older variety of charcoal grills. Gas grills are lit using a tank of propane, or by using another type of natural gas. Having a gas grill is a great way to cook out during both warm and cool months, and having a barbeque is great for having family and friend get-togethers.
Gas grills operate by propane tanks. This is one of the easiest ways to light a fire, because all you need to do is turn the knob, and hit the button for ignition. The starter button is easy to use, and you never have to use an accelerant to turn the flames on. A barbeque grill using propane usually has a temperature gauge, so you can monitor the heat and the knobs to turn the gas from low to medium to high. This is a great advantage over charcoal grills, as with charcoal, you need to start out with a very high flame. Also, with charcoal, you need to light the coals with a lot of lighter fluid. Not only can lighter fluid be dangerous, it can also leave the taste on your food.
Gas grills also have an advantage over others because they clean up very easily. They cool down much quicker than hot coals do, letting you take off the grill section and clean it much faster and easier. When you are using another type of grill, the coals must cool down, sometimes for hours, before you are able to remove them. Additionally, a gas grill turns right off when you are done, by turning the knob off. This makes it easier to stay safe when using a grill. Gas grills can be found from many different manufacturers, in retail stores, lawn and garden stores, and online.

How can I tell how much gas is in my grill tank without a gauge?
Like the first guy said get a scale and weigh your tank. If it's a standard tank then when full it should weigh 40 lbs. when empty 20 lbs. 30 lbs. is half full.
Edit. If you need it filled and don't know were to get it refilled don't exchange the tank at those Blue Rhino or something like that places unless that's your only option. If you have a local Ace Hardware store they will fill the 20lbs tank for $11, the exchange things are double that price around $25.
