Suggestions on making strip steak...?

I used to have a gas stove and a griddle. I'd turn on the broiler in the oven, place the griddle in there to preheat, season my strip steak (vacuum packed is the way to go!) and slap it on the griddle with a little high temp spray oil and have me a great steak for dinner.

Now I have this electric stove crap and when I tried the same thing, I d**n near set the house on fire. The stove smoked like no body's business!

Any other suggestions for making a great steak on an electric stove? I can't find any stove top griddles for electric eye stoves and I really miss my steaks.

(I have no problem using the propane grill outside but it freezing outside right now and I'm not crazy!)

Yes. Buy a grill pan. They have them in Macy's, Target, Walmart, etc. I have a large grill pan and it works like a charm. We have grilled steaks, chops, chicken, etc. I just spray a little olive oil on it after I get the pan nice and hot. If you do cook anything thick on it, just turn the heat to medium high. If it starts smoking, then turn it down to medium. I also grill mahi mahi, tuna steaks on it. They cook really fast, so you have to watch them. They come out really nice.
