30 degree weather is irrelevant unless you specify the heat loss of whatever ambient you are trying to heat up. How big is the fireplace => how many logs at one time would you burn? What is a "moderate ... fire"? Trying to keep the fireplace room at 31 degrees, 50, 70? A fireplace loses most of the heat it generates through the flue, heating up the great outdoors (or trying to).

A cord could last as little as 2 weeks and probably no more than 5-6 months, which is irrelevant unless you live in North Dakota ... where 30 degree weather is a heat wave!
